What are some programs to use for a starting out musician?

I've played the acoustic guitar for around 2 or 3 years now. I just decided that I want others to hear my music through Youtube, Myspace, etc. The only problems are I'm pretty clueless about all of this stuff. I want to make music like Stephen Jerzak, Stereo Skyline, Nevershoutnever, etc. So if you know any programs to help me record, that would be greatly appreciated.
